Dharmayuddhaya ultimately turns into a battle between justice and injustice and might versus right. It is a modern-day drama, a family movie with a moral message to take home. The story is woven around a self-made businessman Harishchandra and his family whose peaceful life is shattered with the appearance of a stranger in their lives.[8][9]

Plot

Harischandra (Jackson Anthony) is a successful businessman who is popular as an innocent, hard-working humble man. He is married to Rani (Dilhani Ekanayake), and they have two daughters, Achini, his elder daughter (Thisuri Yuwanika), a grade 12 student, and younger daughter Sachini (Vinumi Vansadhi), a grade 6 student. He devotes his whole life to the success of his family and is extremely passionate about their future. They live in a small semi-rural area called Manudam Pura.

During a trip, a hidden cell phone camera records Achini and her chest region in the fire camp. The culprit, Shane (Dhanuka Dilshan), is the son of Member of Parliament and lawyer, Vishaka Samaranayake (Kusum Renu). Shane comes to blackmail Achini for sexual favors when Achini's father Hari is not home. Meanwhile, Achini's mother Rani intervenes and pleads with Shane to leave their family alone, but Shane refuses to leave them or delete the photos unless his sexual demand is fulfilled. In an attempt to break the offending cell phone, Achini killed Shane by mistake and he died immediately. They hide his body in a compost pit, which is witnessed by Achini. In the morning, when Hari returns from work, Rani tells about the incident and he starts to save his family from this terrible accident. He removes the broken cell phone and disposes of Shane's car, which is seen by the corrupt Police constable Wimal (Kumara Thirimadura), who has a jealousy against Hari and his calm way of life. The next day, Hari takes his family out on a trip to Kandy, where the family always ask him to travel. They worship sacred Dalada Maligawa, watched films, wander and shopping with happy. Vishaka, realizing that her son has gone missing, starts an investigation.

After a preliminary investigation, Vishaka calls Hari and family for questioning. Hari predict all the events that can be start with Shane's death and waits until the police meet them, Vijay teaches his family on how to face the interrogations without raising suspicion. When questioned individually, the family sticks to their individual stories which are accurate and sharp. The police are unable to find any failure in their interrogations. Hari produces bus tickets, movie tickets, lodging and restaurant bills as proof for the family's trip to Kandy. Vishaka questions the particular personnel in each of the visited places, buses and everything they visited. However, their statements also proved Hari's alibi. Vishaka realizes that on the day of the incident, Hari had taken the tickets and the bill, made fake appearances with each of the personnel in their Kandy visit and had gone for the trip with his family the next day, thus proving his alibi and making the owners unwittingly tell the lie.

Vishaka arrest the Hari's family, and PC Wimal uses brute force, scolds and punishments to reveal the truth out of them though Hari, Rani and elder daughter Achini resist all of them according to Hari's previous teachings. Meanwhile, Vishaka finds out about Shane and his photos of Achini from Shanes's friend. Eventually, with all efforts of PC Wimal, younger daughter Sachini gives in and reveals that she has seen a body being buried in the courtyard. After digging the place, the authorities find the carcass of a dog, indicating that Hari had moved the body. Hari reports to the media that PC Wimal physically abused both his daughters and complains against Wimal, about his roudy behavior and brutal punishments to his family. The PC Wimal is suspended with that incident, where Vishaka is feel sorrow and angry both about his child's missing. When Rani asks Hari about what he did to the body, he did not tell anything, saying that she does not need to know that information, and that the information is safe within his heart.

Vishaka and her husband Upali (Douglas Ranasinghe) meet Hari at a secret place to ask forgiveness for their rude and violent behavior. Hari also asks for forgiveness, and explains to them that he would go to pass any obstacle to protect his family, even it is about a missing of her son. Hari tells Vishaka that someone came to Hari's family as an "uninvited guest" causing chaos and that he has been "sent to a place from where he cannot return." Meanwhile, the place where dead body can be found is revealed. As Hari leaves with smile, a flashback reveals that he has hidden Shane's body under the floor of the police inspector's room in the new police station.
