Dhandhal

Dhandhal (dhadhal (ધાધલ)) is a sub-caste of the Rathore dynasty. It is now a division of Kathi Darbar caste.

History

Rao Kaluji Dhandhal, son of Buddhaji Dhandhal (brother of Pabuji), met Kathi Darbar during his pilgrimage to Dwarka. He helped Kathi Darbar win a war against jam of Kutch, which occurred in Saka Samvat in 1333. During the war, Kaluji was assisted by Gogaji (the reincarnation of Vasuki).

Rao Kaluji established Vasuki as Kuldevta. Rao Kaluji married in the Kathi Rajput family. The Dhandhal of Saurastra are descendants of Kaluji Dhandhal.

The famous Vasuki shrine at Thangadh is mostly worshiped by Dhandhal of Saurastra.

In his book Saurastra Ni Rasdhara, Jhaverchand Meghani mentioned many deeds and accounts of bravery of Dhandhal Rajput of Saurashtra. The Dhandhal of Saurashtra have thirteen divisions and held more than 20 villages.
