Devil's Bit Sessions: Three Generations of Tradition is the first album formally recorded together by The Nesbitt Family, although some members of the Nesbitt family have recorded together on other albums, such as Hibernia and Raining Up.

The album was "completely family driven, from the content to the art direction."[1] The album features 13 members of the Nesbitt family, spanning 3 generations from age 10 to 81. It was recorded in a session style over the course of a single weekend in the Nesbitt family home in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is named after the local mountain, The Devil's Bit.[1][2]

Some of the tracks include recorded commentary about the music within the track.
