Detroit Institute of Music Education
The Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) is a for-profit college based in Detroit, Michigan. DIME opened in 2014 and the initial tuition for the BA program was $39,000. The college offers certificate and bachelor's degree programs in Commercial Music Performance (Guitar Bass, Drums, Vocals) Commercial Songwriting, and Music Industry Studies. DIME initially partnered with the Falmouth University to validate it's BA courses. In March 2016 a partnership with Metropolitan State University in Denver was announced. The partnership will allow DIME students to receive BA degrees through Metropolitan State University while paying the higher DIME tuition. This partnership allows DIME students to be eligible for federal student aid. The financial agreement between DIME and Metropolitan State University has not been publicly disclosed.
DIME was founded by Kevin Nixon and Sarah Clayman. The Beringea Group invested 3 million dollars in DIME to help it open. Prior to founding DIME, Nixon and Clayman were part of a team that owned and managed the for-profit British and Irish Modern Music (BIMM) Institute.[1][2][3][4]
