Premise
Sinag Obispo (Maine Mendoza) is a DJ in a community radio station at her hometown of Pelangi (a fictional barangay in Quezon). The paradise-like town of Pelangi was formerly a well-developed municipality due to its flourishing mining industry but many people were forced to leave the town after mining firms closed down. Meanwhile, Benjie Rosales (Alden Richards) just graduated as an architect. His father, Gabriel, died in an accident when he was young and his mother, Amanda (Lotlot de Leon), solely raised him. Unknown to Benjie, his grandfather, Vicente Rosales (Tommy Abuel), is a real-estate tycoon and his mother suddenly encourages him to contact the Rosales kin after a change of heart. Upon meeting the Rosales household, the family did not fully welcome Benjie except for his grandmother, Helen (Boots Anson-Roa), who convinced Benjie to work at their real estate company.
As Benjie accepts the job, he was assigned to a project at Pelangi where he is destined to meet Sinag. Their life will eventually change and intertwine as they fall in love with each other.

Production
Development
On August 15, 2016, Alden Richards confirmed that their series with Maine Mendoza is in the works during his press conference for his thanksgiving party.[8][9]
A few weeks later, on August 31, 2016, GMA Films President, Annette Gozon-Abrogar issued a statement to AlDub fans on her Instagram account and explaining the delay of development of the series, said that the upcoming series is the "network's top priority". Abrogar noted that the network executives are taking lots of considerations and careful planning for the first prime time series of the phenomenal love team to come up with a well-crafted show, thus, causing the delay in the production process. She further explained that the long process is due to the several concepts being submitted and is in need of approval by both of Richard's and Mendoza's managements, GMA Artist Center and Triple A respectively. Abrogar also denies that Richards will pair with the another actress, responding to the reports of his involvement on the project with Jennylyn Mercado on the remake of My Love from the Star.[10][11]
As its story was finalized, Richards, Mendoza and the staff had a top-secret meeting on October 25, 2016.[12][2]
The story conference happened on December 12, 2016 at the GMA Executive Lounge. The show's title was revealed to be Destined to be Yours and will be directed by Irene Villamor. The whole cast, production team and GMA executives were present at the storycon.[4][6]
Filming
The filming began on December 21, 2016 in Quezon province as Richards starts his first taping day while Mendoza started her taping on January 5, 2017 with Gardo Versoza and Janice de Belen.[13][14]
As Destined to be Yours nears its February airing, a GMA Network executive overseeing the production of the much-awaited teleserye has admitted to feeling immense pressure of having to meet the expectations of the love team’s huge fan base. In an interview with the entertainment press, the vice president for drama production, Redgie Magno said that the network executives are having immense pressure and claimed that the AlDub's first teleserye should work and will ensure everything to make it a reality.
The production team also carefully studied the likes and dislikes of the love team's huge fan base. The negotiations for the prime time show went through the eye of a needle to finally make it happen. It was confirmed that the talks began as early as May 2016 but it wasn’t until late 2016 that things got patched up. There were delays because the two artists were busy but after a series of meetings and presentations with TAPE President and CEO, Antonio P. Tuviera, they eventually agreed on the concept. They freed up Mendoza’s schedule to accommodate the network's offer.[15][16] When Destined to be Yours started filming, Richards and Mendoza missed a couple of Eat Bulaga! episodes to give way to their busy filming schedule according to Antonio Tuviera, the executive producer of Eat Bulaga!.[17][18]
Music
Denise Barbacena was chosen to sing the theme song of the series entitled Tadhana (Destiny) that comes with an official music video.[19] Barbacena previously spoofed Yaya Dub, Maine Mendoza's character in Kalyeserye, in the sketch-comedy television series Bubble Gang where Barbacena was paired with Juancho Trivino who spoofed Alden Richards and also became part of the cast of Destined to be Yours.[19] As Destined to be Yours premiered, the theme song which was released by GMA Records topped the iTunes Philippines charts.[20]
Broadcasting
Destined to be Yours is being broadcast nationwide on GMA Network and also in 60 countries on GMA Pinoy TV.[2] The series is also available to stream at HOOQ 24 hours after its original broadcast on GMA Network at 1080p high-definition video as video on demand.[21]

On December 16, 2016, GMA Network released its first teaser of the series along with the upcoming GMA shows on 24 Oras.[22] Richards and Mendoza confirmed that they already went through intense acting workshops as part of the preparation for this big project.[6]
The full trailer of the series premiered live on 24 Oras on February 14, 2017 as well as the press conference which both coincided with Valentine's Day.[1][7]
