Mayotte elects on an insular level a deliberative assembly. The Departmental Council (Conseil Départemental) has 19 members, elected for a three-year term in single seat constituencies. Mayotte became an Overseas Department and Region in 2011, ending its previous unique transitional status of Departmental collectivity.
