Delta Psi Chi Fraternity is a fraternity consisting of 10 active chapters (known as "Swordsmen") at 10 American colleges and universities. The mission of the Delta Psi Chi Fraternity is to create and maintain an enduring society which encourages the sharing of traditions and values, respect for oneself and others, and responsibility to the university and community.

Delta Psi Chi was founded on April 24, 1985, by 7 students at University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee with the idea of emphasizing the fraternal and social principles of a brotherhood. It was the first Black Greek-letter organization of its kind to be founded on these grounds, rather than the literary characteristics of the many then-existing societies.

Delta Psi Chi's official colors are Wine Burgundy and Sunshine Gold. Delta Psi Chi's national headquarters, the Central Office, is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

History

Delta Psi Chi Fraternity, Inc. founded in 1985 at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, by seven males with the vision of developing a family of men dedicated to a new brotherhood with focus on academic achievement and community involvement. The 7 founding members were: Alex Beamon, Andre Joiner, Harold C. Young III, Rafael Reyes, Barry Ward, Denvelt Harris, and Darryl Terry.[1]

Values and the Delta Psi Chi Swordsman

Delta Psi Chi is founded upon the fraternal aspects of brotherhood and embraces a number of values in its pursuit to establish this brotherhood. These values were first adopted at its founding in 1985. Some of these values are as follows: Delta Psi Chi is defined by the values which are collectively accepted by its members. The extent to which these values are practiced is the measure of our fraternity; Delta Psi Chi committed to the growth of the individual in a social environment which nurtures integrity, dignity and maturity while enjoying shared experiences and college sociability; and Delta Psi Chi recognizing that academic achievement is fundamental to the development of the individual, stands for intellectual growth and the attainment of human potential.[2]

Delta Psi Chi also embraces the idea of being a true Swordsman.
