Deepak Vinayak is an Indian Australian community leader from Melbourne, Victoria. He is also a Justice of the Peace and as per Australian Government policy he provides voluntary service in document witnessing and certification services to the community.[1][2]
Career
Deepak studied civil engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, now Thapar University in Punjab of India and migrated to Australia in 1996. He studied Interpretation and Translation at NMIT Preston, now Melbourne Polytechnic. He has also graduated from Victoria University with a Diploma of Engineering in Advanced Trade.[3] He currently works for the Metro Trains Melbourne. His work in the community has been recognised by government and civil society. He was appointed People of Australia Ambassador for two times 2012 and 2013 by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Deepak also has been four-time Australia Day Ambassador,.[4][5] He was a member of Regional Advisory Council for North and West Metropolitan at Victorian Multicultural Commission, State Government of Victoria,[6][7]
Community Engagement
He founded South Asian Community Link Group-Australasia,[8][9] to engage with South Asian Australians in Victoria. He has extended support in community work by youth,[10] engaged with multifaith communities,[11][12] has hosted community gathering to engage policy makers with local community[13] and has partnered in Suicide Prevention [14]
