Dawsar (Arabic: دواسر ) heavy armored personal carrier developed by King Abdullah Design and Development Bureau .It is conversion of Tariq main battle tank (upgraded version of Centurion). Jordanian Army received 4 vehicles 2014.more of these vehicles are expected to be ordered in the next years.[1]
The prime role of heavy armored vehicle is support mechanized formation .on the battlefield these heavy armored vehicle run alongside main battle tanks.these armored vehicles less vulnerable to anti-tank weapons than light APCs or IFVs. It may be used as a personnel carrier, ammunition carrier, ambulance and command post vehicle.[2]
Design
During conversion process the turret has been removed. Vehicle was widened by 45 cm . Front and rear hatches were added, plus 4 roof hatches for observation,firing and emergency exit .[1] the Dawsar has able to carry 13 soldiers with all their armament and gear. KADDB also developed variants of the Dawsar such as 120-mm mortar carrier and ammunition carrier.[2] It is worth to say that King Abdullah Design and Development Bureau produced since 2001 Temsah Heavy APC .This Vehicle is also based on Centurion tank .
protection
Dawsar heavy APC has a low profile hull.hull sides covered with massive side skirts.Dawsar provides full protection against medium calibere KE ammunition its protection equal to that of main battle tank .It is batter protected then m-113 currently used by Jordanian Army.[1]
Weapons
Dawsar heavy APC armed with remotly controlled station fitted with 12.7mm machine gun and Kornet-E anti tank missile launcher.there is another 7.62mm on different mount, operated by Vehicle commander.
Engine
This Heavy APC is powered by Continental AVDS-1790 supercharged diesel engine, developing 900 hp. this engine used in American main battle tank and in Tariq MBT . Engine is mated to Allison automatic transmission .Maximum range of this APC is 200 km.[1]
