Donald James "Danny" Wilson (born 1955) is a British former professional rugby league player of the 1970s, and 1980s. A Wales national representative stand-off half back, he played his club rugby for Widnes,[1] Swinton,[2] Runcorn Highfield and Springfield Borough.[3]
Born in Wales to a Welsh mother and a Sierra Leonean father, Wilson played rugby union for Cardiff RFC as a fly-half before moving north to play professionally in rugby league.
Wilson once scored five drop goals in a match for Swinton.[4]
Wilson won five caps for Wales while at Swinton, in 1981–82 and 1984.[5]
Wilson is the father of retired Manchester United footballer and former Welsh international Ryan Giggs,[6][7] who was christened Ryan Joseph Wilson but as a teenager changed his surname to that of his mother.[6] Giggs is said to have inherited his balance and athleticism from his father.[6]
