Daniyal Aziz Choudhry (Urdu: دانیال عزیز چوہدری; born 25 February 1965) is a Pakistani politician who is the current Minister for Privatisation, in office since August 2017. He has been an elected member of the National Assembly of Pakistan as a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N).

Early life

Choudhry was born on 25 February 1965 in Lahore[1] to politician Anwar Aziz Chaudhry, who once served in the Pakistani federal cabinet, and an American mother.[2][3] According to another report, he was born on 25 February 1965.[4]

Political career

Choudhry was elected as a member of the National Assembly for the first time in the 1997 general election from the constituency NA-91 Narowal-II on an independent ticket.[5]

He was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly for the second time in the 2002 general election from the constituency NA-116 Narowal-II on an independent seat and later joined PML-Q.[6] He previously served as the chairman of the National Reconstruction Bureau.[2][7][8]

In the 2008 general election, Choudhry ran for the seat of the National Assembly for the third time on the PML-Q ticket but was defeated.[9][10] In March 2013, he joined PML-N.[7]

Choudhry was elected as a member of the National Assembly for the third time on the PML-N ticket from constituency NA-116 Narowal-II in Pakistani general election, 2013.[11][12]

Following the election of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Prime Minister of Pakistan in August 2017, Choudhry was offered the cabinet membership as Minister of State however he declined it. Reportedly, he wanted to be appointed as federal minister.[13][14] Later, he was inducted into the cabinet of Abbasi as a Minister for Privatization with the status of federal minister.[15]
