Daniel Hernández Jr. is an American politician, who was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in the 2016 elections.[1] A member of the Arizona Democratic Party, he serves alongside Rosanna Gabaldón in Legislative District 2.[1]

A graduate of the University of Arizona, Hernández had his first job after graduating as an intern in the office of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.[2] Less than one week into that job, Giffords was injured in the 2011 Tucson shooting, at which Hernández was credited with saving her life.[2] Later that year, he was elected to the board of the Sunnyside Unified School District, on which he served until running for the state legislature.[3]

He is openly gay.[3]

Hernandez endorsed a 2016 ballot measure to legalize recreation marijuana in Arizona.[4]
