Daniel Diermeier (born July 16, 1965) is the University of Chicago’s Provost. He succeeded Eric Isaacs on July 1, 2016.[2]

From 2014 to 2016, Diermeier served as Dean of the Harris School of Public Policy.[2] Previously, he taught at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management as well as the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Rochester.[3]

Diermeier is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences[4] and a research fellow at the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research (CIFAR).[5] In 2014, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in political science.[6]

Diermeier’s research interests include economics, political theory, and crisis management.[3] Outside of academia, he has served in advisory roles to institutions including Johnson & Johnson, Accenture, the City of Chicago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and UnitedHealth Group.[7]

Diermeier was born in Berin, Germany, and in 1984–1986 completed German National Civil Service in Munich. He is married and has two children.[1]
