Cycloxanthops novemdentatus (common name: nine-tooth pebble crab) is a small crab of the family Xanthidae.[1][2][3]
Zoologist and marine biologist, Edward Ricketts, wrote about this crab in 1932, which was later published published in 1939 by Stanford University Press, in his book, Between Pacific Tides.[4] Here is an excerpt:
"The crab, Cycloxanthops novemdentatus (Plate XXI), a dull reddish brown, will be taken for a small Cancer. The obvious bumps on its big claws will serve to identify the dark red Paraxanthias taylori (Plate XXI). Both of these extend down into Mexico from Monterey, but neither is common in the northern part of the range, while they form a feature of the intertidal at La Jolla, for instance."
