Cristo Rey San José Jesuit High School is a member of the Cristo Rey Network of work-study schools for students from low-income families. It was opened by the California Province of the Society of Jesus in 2014.[1] It admits students from all religious and cultual backgrounds.[2]

Work-study program

The Corporate Work Study Program is separately incorporated and serves as a temporary employment agency within the school. It employs every student five full days a month in an entry-level, professional job all four years of high school.[3] Students earn a majority of their education cost while gaining real-world work experience.[4] The work component was initiated out of financial necessity but has also contributed to student maturity and employability.[5]

Collaborators

Twenty colleges from across the country came to campus to recruit the first class of juniors.[6] Nationwide Cristo Rey Network students applying to college have had a 100% acceptance rate.[7] According to a 2011 study, 90% of Cristo Rey students were enrolling in college.[8]

Activities

The school has both girls and boys soccer and the Lyrical Lions music club.[9] It also has boys and girls basketball and in 2017 the students were soliciting for funding to begin a football team.[10]
