Covenant Christian School is an independent co-educational, non-denominational, Christian day school located in Belrose on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was established in 1978. The school has 850 students from Preschool (3 & 4 year old) to Year 12 Higher School Certificate. The school is a member of Christian Education National (formerly Christian Parents Controlled Schools). The school is also a member of the Christian Schools Sporting Association (CSSA) and the Combined Independent Schools (CIS). The school offers facilities like an onsite cafe, Performing Arts centre and a Hall used for musicals and events.

History

The founders of Covenant Christian School wanted an education for their children which was clearly and explicitly Christian in perspective. A group of Christians began to discuss starting a Christian School in 1965 and in 1966 bought land at Ingleside for a school.

From 1970 through 1973 various development applications were refused by council. They applied in 1975 to Council to start in a demountable building. In 1977 a decision to start in a church hall while continuing to look for suitable location was reached.

Classes started May 1978 at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Terrey Hills, with one teacher and 19 children from Kindergarten to Year 5. In September 1978 the property at 212 Forest Way was purchased. In 1979 Primary education started in Cottage at Forest Way and Infants in Church hall at Terrey Hills. Beginning in 1980 K-7 school all were operating at Forest Way. 1983 was the year with the first Year 10 School Certificates. 1986 had the first Year 12 HSC.

2007 saw the first transition (preschool).

By 2016 Covenant has reached over 800 students and many new buildings around the school. The school has progressed from a small school in St Pauls to a school with lots of students.

In December 2016 Covenant's principle Bill Rusin retired and Harry Bauls took up the position[1]

Corporal Punishment

Although Covenant currently does not administer corporal punishment it did however, with other privately run schools protest[2] against the 1995 education discipline act (came into effect in 1997).[3]

The school does however maintain its previous stance on corporal punishment and does not oppose corporal punishment if enacted by the parents/ guardian of a child.[4]
