Coup d’Etat is an upcoming American satirical comedy film about an exiled dictator, written and directed by Lisa Addario and Joe Syracuse. The film stars Michael Caine, Odeya Rush and Katie Holmes.
Plot
An exiled dictator in hiding (played by Michael Caine) teaches a rebellious suburban teenager (Odeya Rush) how to overthrow the "mean girls" in her high school.

Production
The script was shown among the 2006 Black List of unproduced scripts.[2] Alfred Molina, Robert DeNiro and Anthony Hopkins were previously attached as the dictator role.[3] On June 8, 2016, Michael Caine and Maisie Williams were announced as the lead stars of the film.[4] Principal photography on the film began on July 29, 2016 in Savannah, Georgia.[5] First photographs of Katie Holmes and Odeya Rush filming scenes for the film were published on E! News on July 31, 2016.[6] It was announced that the production had wrapped on October 27, 2016.[7]
Release
Coup d'Etat held its first public screening at the 22nd Nantucket Film Festival (where the original screenplay was presented as a staged reading in 2006).[8][9] It held its New York / New Jersey premiere at the 2017 Indie Street Film Festival.[10]
