County Route 34 (CR 34) is a county-maintained roadway in western Otsego County, New York, in the United States. It extends for 14.15 miles (22.77 km) from an intersection with New York State Route 7 (NY 7) in the hamlet of Schenevus to an intersection with New York State Route 165 (NY 165) in the hamlet of South Valley. The highway runs along almost the entire length of Elk Creek. CR 34 passes through the hamlets of Elks Creek and Westford.

The portion of CR 34 between Schenevus and Westford was originally maintained by the state of New York. It was added to the state highway system in 1916 and designated as New York State Route 314 c. 1931. The NY 314 designation was removed in the early 1950s, and maintenance was transferred to the county.

Route description

CR 34 begins at an intersection with NY 7 in the town of Maryland, in the hamlet of Schenevus on the northern bank of the Schenevus Creek. CR 34 heads north out of Schenevus following the Elks Creek valley. About a mile north it goes through a series of sharp curves and crosses Elks Creek. It then continues north on the western bank of Elks Creek as it passes several farms. At roughly three miles (4.8 km) from Schenevus the route reaches the hamlet of Elk Creek. The route then passes several more farms and residences before reaching the hamlet of Westford at about 12 miles (19 km) from the Schenevus. It then continues north from Westford through more rural farmlands before terminating at NY 165 in the hamlet of South Valley.

The portion of CR 34 between NY 7 in Schenevus and the hamlet of Westford was originally a state-maintained highway. It was added to the New York state highway system on January 12, 1916[3] and designated as NY 314 c. 1931.[4][5] The NY 314 designation was removed in the early 1950s,[1] and was then transferred to county-maintenance.

Signage for county routes in Otsego County were posted in July 1965.[6]
