The Galápagos land iguanas comprise the genus Conolophus of the Galápagos Islands. The name Conolophus is derived from two Greek words: conos (κώνος) meaning "spiny" and lophos (λοφος) meaning "crest" or "plume", denoting the spiny crests along the backs of these species.g
