Escape the Day is a Swedish metalcore band from Gothenburg, formed in 2007, as Mindscape, by Sebastian Westman and Patrick Möhlenbrock.[1] The current lineup consists of Sebastian Ekstrand, Jonas Jenelin, Sebastian Westman, and Kristian Forsell. After the departure of Patrick Möhlenbrock, in 2016, Sebastian Westman remains the only founding member of the band. They released their debut album, Into Inception, in 2016.

History

Mindscape (2007–2009)

Escape the Day started their journey in 2007, as Mindscape. When releasing their first EP, Mindscape, in 2008, they received immediate recognition over the internet. After the departure of the screamer Sebastian Jarfelt, the band looked for a new screamer, but never found anyone suitable for their music. In the process of looking for a screamer, they recruited a female vocalist, Maria Petersèn, to give the band two distinctive lead singers that we're able to carry the songs.

The line up changes. When spending time in the studio it was clear that some changes had to be made in order to reinvent the sound of the band. They came across the very young screamer Jonas Jenelin, who made an direct impact to the sound, with his style of screaming, giving the music what it needed and leading Mindscape into Escape the Day.

Escape the Day (2009–present)

In 2011, Maria Petersèn left the band to pursue her dream, as a Musical Artist. Through a friend of the band, Angeline Stenbock came in and completely changed the script. With a voice that has its roots in rhythm and blues, soul and gospel, Angeline changed the sound of the band even more.

Niklas Jonsson on drums, left the band in 2011. Neil Grant, an experienced drummer from Scotland, was hired to replace Niklas. Neil came in with a very dynamic drumming style that he's developed for over 20 years. Neil immediately got accepted and came along very well with the rest of the band.

In 2011, after several lineup changes, Escape the Day decided to go on hiatus.

After one year of hiatus, Escape the Day returned in 2012, with new members and a new sound. They returned with two new singles, "Turn Back Time" and "As We Were Once", which were both recorded for the video game Rock Band 3.

Escape the Day released their first full album, Into Inception, in 2016. Before the release of their debut album, founding member Patrick Möhlenbrock decided to leave the band.

On August 12, 2016, Sebastian Ekstrand announced the release of his solo single "Come To Me".

Musical Style

Escape the Day's sound is similar to bands, such as Dead by April, and Amaranthe. Their sound is Melodic Metalcore, while blending Rock and Pop with electronic music. The band has described their sound as "90's Dance-Trance scene blended with Metal and a slight touch of Rock and Pop."
