Conahy Shamrocks is an Irish Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the small parish of Conahy, in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1886,[1] and is therefore one of the oldest in the county. Conahy won the 2008 Junior club All-Ireland in Croke Park defeating Moyle Rovers of Tipperary, Conahy Club member and President of the GAA Nickey Brennan presented the cup to his home club.

History

The club was founded in 1886 when a group of scallywags from the nearby parish of Muckalee challenged some upstanding gentlemen of Conahy in a game of fisticuffs, however, not in favour of such immature behaviour the Conahy men proposed a hurling match with a wager of a friesian heifer from each member of the losing team to the victors. The game ended with a resounding victory for Conahy.

Achievements

It is said that so many people claim to have been at the 2008 Junior Club Hurling Championship that if everyone who claims to have been there actually attended; Croke Park would have to have had double the current seating capacity.
