The Community College of City University (Abbreviation: CCCU; Chinese:香港城市大學專上學院) is one of the community colleges in Hong Kong. CCCU was established in 2004 under the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and is now providing about 6,000 places of associate degree programmes provided by four different divisions.[1] The medium of instruction is mainly English and some courses are supplemented by Cantonese.

History

Establishment of CCCU

After the discontinuation of fund by the University Grants Committee (UGC) for most of the associate degree Programmes of City University of Hong Kong in 2004, the Community College of City University was established and providing various associate degree Programmes.[2]

Alliance With University of Wollongong

On 21 November 2014, The University of Wollongong(UOW) and CityU announced their partnership in accordance with the press release of both of the institutions.[3][4] There were several concerns from the staff and students of CCCU. For example, the employment of the staff and the accreditation of the current associate degree programmes after the transferral from CCCU to UOW. It was said that within the first 5 years of the transitional period, all the employment terms and conditions will be remained the same, all the current programmes will be continued in both the Main Campus and Telford Annex and students can continue to enjoy the facilities provided by CityU.[5]

Campuses

There are 2 campuses of CCCU including the Main Campus and the Telford Annex. Before the opening of Academic 2, most of the programmes took place in Academic 1. Other programmes (about 1,600 students) take place in the Telford Annex.[6]

Students in the Main Campus can enjoy various services for example the general clinic and dental clinic of the Health Centre and facilities provided by CityU. They will also automatically become the members of the Students' Union of CityU [7] so they can also join the activities held by the Students' Union and register as members of different societies. Except from not eligible for student residence in CityU, the student life of CCCU students in the Main Campus is basically the same as other students studying in the UGC funded programmes of CityU.

Students in the Telford Annex

Students in the Telford Annex are not eligible to become the members of the Students' Union of CityU but there are several societies such as Aviation Society for students studying Airport Operations and Aviation Logistics. Other services like clinical services and fitness room are provided by off-campus service providers. For example, the fitness room of Telford Recreation Club.
