CloudBerry Lab is a software company that develops online backup and file management solutions integrated with more than 20 cloud storage providers.
CloudBerry Backup and CloudBerry Explorer are offered for personal use in a “freemium model”. Other products and more advanced CloudBerry Backup versions are sold per license with a free trial available. CloudBerry Managed Backup is an online platform that provides central management and monitoring for backup and restoration of multiple workstations.
Its main product, CloudBerry Backup, supports Windows, Windows Server, macOS and Linux operating systems and can work with SQL, Exchange and Oracle Database applications. CloudBerry Explorer and CloudBerry Drive allow clients to access, move and manage files on different cloud storages such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
CloudBerry Lab has a wide range of established partnerships with cloud storage providers. In January 2015 Cloudberry Lab became an Amazon S3 Storage Competency Partner.[2]
History
CloudBerry Lab was founded on September 1, 2008, when it released a free file manager for Amazon S3 called CloudBerry Explorer.[3] CloudBerry Explorer PRO was made public in beta in May and as a stable version in October 2009.[4] From February 2010 CloudBerry Explorer supports Windows Azure[5][6] and from May 2010 also Google Cloud Storage.[7][8][9] In January 2012, the company added support for OpenStack Swift and Rackspace.[10]
In April 2009 the company launched a beta version of CloudBerry Backup for Amazon S3.[11] Its official release was made in October 2009.[4] Since then the product was updated with Windows Azure,[12] Google Cloud[13] and many others. In August 2015 a freeware version of CloudBerry Backup was published.[14][15] In November 2010 CloudBerry Backup released a Windows Server Edition. MS SQL Server and MS Exchange support, as well as Bare Metal Edition, were made available in 2013[16] and the version for Oracle Database was released in late 2015.[17] CloudBerry Backup for Linux and Mac operating systems was published in July 2015[18][19] followed by editions for Synology and QNAP in late 2015.[20]
Products
CloudBerry Lab develops software for automated backups, file management and synchronization that is used by individuals, and small to medium-sized enterprises. The company's main products include CloudBerry Backup, CloudBerry Explorer and CloudBerry Drive.
CloudBerry Backup
CloudBerry Backup is a standalone program that allows backup automation and recovery of files, folders and system images. The product is designed for cloud backup but can also work for local backups to external hard drives. The latest product version can back up data to a variety of cloud service providers and support so-called "cold" storages such as Azure Cool Blob Storage[21] and Google Cloud Storage Nearline.[22][23]
To access and backup files users should log in with a public storage account. However, CloudBerry Lab doesn't have access to the customer data.[24] After connecting to one of the supported accounts users can create a backup plan to launch full backup or backup new or changed portions of files after the initial backup has been made. The backup can be implemented manually or scheduled to start automatically. The software has both a graphical user interface and a wizard for setting up a backup plan. The data can also be backed up on a block-level,[25] be optionally compressed or encrypted with a 256-bit AES Encryption.
CloudBerry Backup comes with different editions. Windows Desktop, Mac and Linux editions are aimed for personal files backup, whereas Windows Server, MS Exchange, MS SQL Server, Oracle and Ultimate editions are designed to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. A command-line interface is supported for all editions and operating systems (Windows, Mac and Linux).
CloudBerry Managed Backup is an online control panel built for managed service providers and enterprises which operate with more than five computers. It provides additional features such as central management and monitoring and includes support of the command-line interface as well as Autotask, ConnectWise and Office 365 applications.[24][26] Managed Backup solution is offered with an optional rebranding allowing an MSP to fully white label the end product as well as limit the number of working cloud storages.
CloudBerry Explorer
CloudBerry Explorer is a freeware Windows client for managing files between a computer folder and a remote online storage, such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, OpenStack or Rackspace. The software has a graphic interface similar to FTP software enabling users to manage files between two directories (either local or cloud) allowing for multiple accounts connection and working with them simultaneously.[27][28] With the ability to create, browse, delete or share both buckets and user files, Cloudberry Explorer provides more functionality than typical cloud management software. It also allows for file transfers from one bucket to another.[29]
CloudBerry Explorer’s version for Amazon S3 includes CloudFront support which enables users to create and manage CloudFront distributions,[30] distribute private content,[31] stream media content[32] and manage IAM policies.[33]
The product has a support of PowerShell rules and the command-line interface that allows a user to automate the entire process of transferring and managing files (upload, download, set permissions on individual and folder level) to Amazon S3 and other cloud storages as well as managing Amazon CloudFront distributions.[30] It also supports logging and custom HTTP headers,.[34][35] CloudBerry Explorer PRO has advanced features such as encryption and compression, compare and sync, multipart upload and multithreading, FTP/SFTP support and predefined headers.[36][37]
CloudBerry Drive
CloudBerry Drive is a Windows program that mounts cloud storage either on PC or a Windows Server. It creates a network or external drive within the Windows Explorer interface and shows files stored on a particular cloud storage account. Its main features include drag and drop file management, encryption, support of FTP/SFTP and the command-line interface.[38]
Pricing
Unlike many other online backup services, CloudBerry Lab doesn't offer a subscription plan for its standalone products. The pricing model is a one-time purchase fee which is paid per license. The pricing starts from $29.99 for CloudBerry Backup Desktop Edition, but free versions of CloudBerry Backup are also available for personal use. The more advanced Windows Server and Ultimate editions for business are offered for $119.99 and $299.99. The volume discounts are valid for enterprises with more than five computers.
CloudBerry Explorer is a freeware software, however the PRO version can be purchased for $39.99.[37] CloudBerry Drive costs $29.99 for Desktop and $59.99 for the Server Edition. With CloudBerry Managed Backup service the licenses are sold on a yearly basis and vary depending on license type and volume of purchase.
Partners
CloudBerry Lab is an Amazon certified partner.[39] The company also has established partnerships with Autotask and ConnectWise for their CloudBerry Managed Backup Service. With this type of integration, service providers can import and manage existing contacts as well as managing storage limit specifications and backup destinations.[26][40]
Except Managed Backup Service company has a reseller program for SMBs that provide IT services to existing clients.[41][42]
