Claud A. Hatcher the inventor of R.C. Cola

Claud Adkins Hatcher (20 August 1876 31 December 1933) invented RC (Royal Crown) beverages. He was an American Columbus, Georgia pharmacist and son of a grocer.

Through the family-owned Hatcher Grocery Company, Hatcher introduced a cola drink in 1905 called Royal Crown Ginger Ale. In the same year a company was formed to bottle the popular drinks, Union Bottling Works.

Hatcher is buried in the Riverdale Cemetery in Muscogee County, Georgia. His will established the Pickett & Hatcher Educational Fund, a non-profit student lender.
