Christian Guzman (born 20 February 1993) is an American amateur bodybuilder, YouTube vlogger, and fitness entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of the fitness apparel brand Alphalete Athletics and the owner and operator of the Alphalete Gym in Houston, Texas. As of 2017, he has more than 740,000 subscribers on YouTube and more 1,000,000 followers on Instagram.
Early life
Christian Guzman was born on 20 February 1993.[1] He was raised in Houston, Texas. He has one younger brother. In high school he played guitar and was a member of a rock band, but when the group disbanded, Guzman turned his attention to studying health and fitness management in college and developing his own fitness program.[2] He attended Texas State University from 2011 to 2015,[3] but did not complete his degree in favor of pursuing his growing business in fitness-related digital products.[2]
Youtube vlog
Guzman began his fitness vlog as an 18-year-old college freshman with videos of weightlifting tips and instructions.[4][2] Since then, his Youtube channel's focus has become more general and incorporated aspects of his personal life,[2] and is self-described as similar to "reality television."[5] He eventually dropped out of college to pursue his fitness career full time.[2]
In a 2015 interview with Muscle and Performance, Guzman described the growth of his Youtube channel:
The first year, I was posting videos every single week. I stayed committed to uploading frequently. That year, I gained maybe 3,000 subscribers. After the second year, it was 20,000. It quadrupled between year one and year two. And year three, now the channel’s at 260,000. You just keep uploading, and if you’re putting out good content and effort, it will hit.[2]
Late in 2015, Bodybuilding.com ran an article on him with the headline "300,000 People Watch Every Time He Trains!" It describes him as one of the most widely recognized fitness Youtube personalities.[5] As of 2017, he has over 740,000 subscribers on Youtube and over 990,000 followers on Instagram.[6][7]
Alphalete Athletics
Following his Youtube success, Guzman started the company Alphalete Athletics to sell fitness and later lifestyle apparel.[4] The clothing style is described broadly as "athleisure" and is independently regarded as affordable but of high quality.[8] Alphalete has been featured at international bodybuilding events such as BodyPower UK and is sold worldwide.[9][10] Guzman eventually opened an "industrial-style"[8] Alphalete Gym in Houston, Texas. By the age of 23, Guzman was estimated by one commentator to have a net worth of around $2 million, thanks largely to the success of Alphalete's clothing brand.[4]
