LendInvest is a marketplace lending & investing platform for residential and commercial mortgages created by Montello, a specialist financier based in London.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] It offers an crowdsourcing alternative to bank-backed mortgages, of which there has been a drastic decline in the United Kingdom following the Financial Crisis of 2007–08.[1][15][16][17]

Launched in May 2013, the company lent £6.5 million in its first four months of operation.[18][19][20]

Company overview

LendInvest lets investors find and invest in new loans and facilitates an online market for completed loans.[1][9][10][11] Unlike most P2P lenders, LendInvest secures all loans against real estate and is the first P2P lender in the UK for originating and funding new residential and commercial loans.[3][14] It was the first live P2P lending platform in the world to focus specifically on mortgage loans.[21]

LendInvest’s association with Montello lets the company underwrite each loan and provides customers access to a variety of loan and underwriting processes.[17][22] Its primary investors are high-net-worth individuals and institutional-grade investors.[4][13]

LendInvest was founded by Christian Faes, a solicitor and Managing Partner of Montello and Ian Thomas, Partner and also a founder of Montello.[1][3][8][9][11]

In September 2013, the company became a member of the trade organization P2P Finance Association.[23][24][25][26] The Association also includes other established P2P lenders in UK financial market such as Zopa, Funding Circle, and RateSetter.[24][25][26]

In June 2015 LendInvest raised the biggest Series A funding round in UK FinTech so far,[27] after announcing that China's Beijing Kunlun has backed the peer-to-peer lending platform in search of higher returns, as competition in the fast-growing alternative finance sector heats up.[28]

In October 2015 the UK online marketplace for property investment reported a £3.1 million of profit for the year ending 31 March 2015.[29] LendInvest made a £3.1 million ($4.7 million) profit in the year to March, up from £1.2 million ($1.8 million) in 2014. Revenue rose from £5 million ($7.6 million) to £15 million ($23 million).[30]
