Chris Fleming (born January 29, 1987) is an American comedian who currently resides in Los Angeles, California. He is best known for his YouTube series Gayle, in which he stars as the titular high-strung suburban mom Gayle Waters-Waters.
Early life
Fleming grew up in Stow, Massachusetts with his mother, Nancy Fleming, and father, Joe Fleming. Chris Fleming received a degree in theater from Skidmore College. He was one credit short of receiving a minor in dance.[1]
Gayle
Gayle is a comedy series on YouTube about a frantically desperate suburban mom and how she goes through her everyday life trying to climb the social ladder. Chris Fleming stars as the title character, Gayle Waters-Waters (whose choice to hyphenate her and her husband's same last name is reflective of her high-strung personality).[2] Fleming developed the idea for Gayle through a stand-up bit in which he portrayed a desperate middle-aged mom who would do anything to maintain status in her community. The 40-episode YouTube series is written by Fleming and directed by Melissa Strype, who also plays Gayle's daughter, Terry.[3] Fleming's mother co-stars as Bonnie, Gayle's best friend and biggest rival, and his father plays the role of Dave, Gayle's very submissive husband. The music is by Brian Heveron-Smith, Tom Lowery, and Chris Hartford. Comedian Margaret Cho grew an interest in the show and guest starred in an episode. Gayle went viral after an old friend of Fleming's shared the first episode on Reddit, and the series has since gained over 2.7 million views. The series is filmed in Chris Fleming's hometown in Massachusetts. In 2014 the Gayle team went on a US tour with the show titled Gayle Live.[4]
YouTube channel
Chris Fleming runs a YouTube channel under his own name. The channel has gained over one hundred thousand subscribers. Gayle is uploaded to this channel; however, Fleming has a variety of other comedic videos that range in a variety of different topics, impressions of politicians, including Betsy DeVos and Gary Johnson, and car rants where he complains about purple cauliflower, theater kids, and adventure dads.
Stand-up comedy
Chris Fleming began doing stand-up comedy in 2005, and in 2016 and 2017 he toured the United States with his stand-up comedy show titled Show Pig.[5]
