Chelsea Vanessa Peretti[1] (born February 20, 1978)[1] is an American comedian, actress, and writer. She is best known for portraying Gina Linetti on the Fox comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine.[2] Paste ranked her Twitter account #75 on "The 75 Best Twitter Accounts of 2014".[3]
Early life
Peretti was born in Contra Costa County, California,[1] raised in Oakland, California,[4] the daughter of a Christian father and Jewish mother.[5][6] Her older brother is internet entrepreneur Jonah Peretti, who founded BuzzFeed and co-founded The Huffington Post.[7][8]
Peretti attended The College Preparatory School in Oakland. She moved to New York City in 1996 to attend Barnard College[4][9] and graduated in 2000.[10][11][12] She attended elementary school with her Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Andy Samberg and junior high school with comedian Moshe Kasher.[13]
Career
Peretti has written for The Village Voice, Details, Playgirl, Jest, American Theatre Magazine, as well as online publications like The Huffington Post. While in New York she made short films with Variety SHAC, a comedy troupe she formed in 2004 along with Andrea Rosen, Heather Lawless, and Shonali Bhowmik.[4]
After moving to Los Angeles, Peretti made appearances on programs such as Louie, The Sarah Silverman Program, TruTV Presents: World's Dumbest..., and Tosh.0. She appeared as a guest correspondent on one episode of Lopez Tonight interviewing local citizens about Prop 8.[14]
In July 2010, Peretti made Variety magazine's "Ten Comics to Watch in 2010" list.[10] Peretti is credited as a writer on six episodes of the television show Parks and Recreation from 2011 to 2012.
Peretti also appeared on the UK's Channel 4 show The Big Fat Quiz of Everything.
She has made several guest appearances on podcasts including Doug Loves Movies, How Did This Get Made?, You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes, The Todd Glass Show, The Lavender Hour, The Bone Zone with Brendon Walsh and Randy Liedtke, and Comedy Bang! Bang! In October 2012, Peretti launched her own call-in podcast, Call Chelsea Peretti.[15]
Peretti guest-starred in the Comedy Central series Kroll Show as Farley, a love interest of Bobby Bottleservice.
Since 2013 Peretti has been a series regular on Fox's detective/police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, playing Gina Linetti.[16]
Personal life
Peretti dated Jim Norton.[17]
Peretti began dating actor Jordan Peele in March 2013.[18] They became engaged in November 2015.[19] On April 26, 2016, Peretti announced on Instagram that she and Peele had "eloped".[20]
Peretti gave birth to son Beaumont Gino Peele, on July 1, 2017.[21]
