Charles Emery Tooke, Jr. (July 19, 1912 – September 1986),[1] was an Attorney from Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana,[2] who served as a Democrat in the Louisiana State Senate from 1948 to 1956, alongside, first, Riemer Calhoun and, then, B. H. "Johnny" Rogers, both of DeSoto Parish.[3]
Tooke was born in DeRidder in Beauregard Parish in southwestern Louisiana, to Charles Emery Tooke, Sr. (1880-1951), a native of Bienville Parish in northwestern Louisiana, and the former Bessie Lee Roberts (1887-1961). He had a brother, Jack Roberts Tooke (1918-1972), and a sister, Sarah Katherine Tooke Pankey (1914-2012), who was an educator, primarily in Winnsboro in Franklin Parish.[4] Louisiana.
Tooke was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy Reserve during World War II. He worked in the military government and civil affairs of the Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Tooke and his first wife, the former Lucia Francis Von Beck (1915-1981), a native of California, had six children: Catherine Castro Tooke (born December 14, 1948), now Catherine Castro Tooke McVea of Dubach in Lincoln Parish; Elizabeth ("Dabou") Roberts Tooke (born July 13, 1949), now Elizabeth ("Dabou") Roberts Tooke Madole, of Shreveport; Sarah (Sally) Bell Tooke (born July 24, 1950), now Sarah (Sally) Bell Tooke Haynie, of Allen, Texas; Marjorie Claire Tooke (born June 5, 1952), now Marjorie Claire Tooke Gholson, of Shreveport; Patricia (Tricia) Ann Tooke, now Patricia (Trisha) Ann Tooke Lloyd, of Belews Creek, North Carolina, and Charles Emery Tooke, III (born October 1, 1955) of Fort Worth, Texas.[5] Following the death of his first wife, Tooke married the former Thais Grimes, with whom he had no children.
Tooke is interred at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, alongside his first wife, Lucia Francis Von Beck Tooke.[6]
