Chalisgaon  pronunciation  is a city and a municipal council in Jalgaon district in the state of Maharashtra, India. The town, known for its well planned architecture, is situated on the bank of river Titur and Dongari in the northern part of Maharashtra state. A main railway junction station under Bhusawal division of central railway is on the Mumbai-Delhi/Mumbai-Kolkata railway route and all major super fast, mail and express trains halt here. The city is known for its own kind of modern culture with due respect of its own history. due to its geographical conditions and pleasant climate it was administrative head quarter of three districts during British rule which were Khandesh, (Divided later in two parts i.e. east and west Khandesh having their district headquarters at Jalgaon and Dhule respectively) Nasik and Aurangabad. There was a domestic airport in the city which became non-operational after independence.

Geography

Chalisgaon is located at 20°28′N 75°01′E / 20.47°N 75.02°E / 20.47; 75.02.[1] and on the National Highway NH-211. being main railway junction station on central railway having slip route to Dhule it is rising as promising industrial growth centre in Maharashtra, due to its connectivity to almost all parts of the country through road and rail; and easy availability of skilled manpower in surrounding area, various big industrialist like Bharat wire ropes, Ambuja exports, etc. are showing their interest to invest here for their set ups. It has an average elevation of 344 metres (1128 feet).[2]

Places to visit

Keki Moos art Gallery- artist Keki Moos was from Chalisgaon and the art gallery having his painting around 3000 nos. is situated just in front of Chalisgaon railway station to west side.

Pir Musa qadri baba dargah- The symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity is 2 km from Chalisgaon station and tourists from all over india visit here regularly. It is also known as Bamoshi baba dargah.

Patnadevi Temple-The beautiful temple of kuldevi of chalisgaon constructed in hemadpanthi architecture situated in the deep forestry of Gautala Autram ghat is 18 km from Chalisgaon city. Dhavalteerth waterfall, Mahadeo mandir, Pitalkhora caves, Sita Nhani, Kedar kund, Lilavati Vanoaushadhi kendra, walziri etc.are nearby attractions to visit.

A mathematician Bhaskaracharya was from Patna Devi who invented zero (0) and wrote the granth Lilavati.

The Ellora Caves are just 65 km from city and tourist alight at Chalisgaon junction railway station for Ellora. Buses and taxis are easily available from Chalisgaon Bus stand.

Economics

Chalisgaon Area is large producer of Milk, banana and lime. The Milk gets supplied to the capital city Mumbai on large basis while Banana gets supplied to the northern part of India. Sugarcane is also a major crop from the area and a sugar factory "The Belganga shakari sakhar kharkhana" is just 6 KM from the city.National textile corporation's textile mill, Khandesh extractions, central railway's flash butt welding plant, Bharat wire ropes, Ambuja Exports etc.are the major industries along with various small scale units in the sector of pharmaceutical, plastic, electrical, chemical, tobacco processing, agriculture, Food processing, and mechanical.

There are two industrial areas in the city.one is The Chalisgaon cooperative industrial estate at Dhule Road and another is newly developed Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's industrial Area ( MIDC) at Khadki.

all Major nationalised and private sector banks are having their branches in the city including State bank of India, Bank Of Maharashtra,Central Bank of India,Bank of Baroda,Dena Bank,Bank of India,Canara Bank,Union Bank of India,ICICI Bank,HDFC Bank,IDBI Bank,Axis Bank,Kotak Mahindra Bank,JDCC Bank,Jalgaon Janta sahakari Bank, etc.

Chalisgaon is well connected to other parts of the country through rail, road and air. National Highway 211 (Surat-Hyderabad) passes through the city.nearest Airport Aurangabad is just 85 KM from the city which operates direct domestic flights to Delhi and Mumbai as well as connected flights to all major airports of country through Mumbai and Delhi. being a main junction railway station on central railway all major super fast, mail, express and passenger trains halts at Chalisgaon. slip route to Dhule (55 KM) is older more than 100 years and a passenger train having 7 halts in between Chalisgaon and Dhule runs to and fro thrice a day .major trains having their halt at Chalisgaon are as following.

Sports

The city is facilitated with various play grounds to play Cricket, Basketball, Hand ball, foot ball, soft ball, table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, snooker, kabaddi, kho-kho, and swimming, two huge sports complexes having indoor and outdoor games are available in the city. one is owned by the Chalisgaon education society and another is owned by Government of Maharashtra. Sheth Narayan Bankat Gymkhana is older one in the city and well known for indoor games like badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and snooker.Olympic size swimming pool is operated by Chalisgaon Municipal council for swimmers.various District, State and national level tournaments are gets organised in the city regularly.

Administration

Chalisgaon is second largest tahsil in the District of Jalgaon having population around 1 lakh in the city and around 2.5 lakhs in the rural area.the Basic facilities is provided in the city by Chalisgaon Municipal council having 33 elected and 5 nominated municipal council members ( Nagar sevak).the President of Municipal council is directly elected from all the voters from city.Vice President of Municipal council is elected from municipal council members. Chief officer ( appointed by Government of Maharashtra ) is administrative head of Municipal council.The administration of rural area (Tahsil ) is controlled by Taluka Panchayat Samitee and zilha parishad. Tahsildar is administrative head for whole taluka. Girna canal division state P.W.D. Office,220 K.V.Substation,132 K.V.Substation,M.S.E.D.C.L. O & M division ,National Highway Maintenance Division,deputy registrar's office etc. are some other offices to serve the area. Chalisgaon is having court and Additional superintendent of Police ( Addl. S.P.) ,Deputy superintendent of Police ( Dy.S.P.) is also based in the city. Chalisgaon city Police station, Chalisgaon rural Police station,Mehunbare Police station,Chalisgaon traffic police are the police stations serving their duties to control law & order situations in the area. Chalisgaon is legislative assembly constituency and Member of Legislative Assembly ( M.L.A.) gets elected from here. the parliamentary constituency is Jalgaon and Member of Parliament ( M.P.) gets elected from the area. Jalgaon city ,Jalgaon rural, Erandol, Amalner,and Pachora are other legislative assemblies under Jalgaon parliamentary constituency.

Culture

As the Population of city is having majority of Hindu community, The festivals like Vijayadhshami (Dashera), Diwali,Ganpati utsav, Navratri, Holi, Gudhi Padhva, Akshay tritiya, and Gopal kala ( Dahi handi) gets celebrated very aggressively by the Chalisgaonkars. Eid is also celebrated by Muslims.Hindu and Muslims wish each other on this holy festival of Eid. Pir Musa Kadri Baba's Urus is the example of Hindu-Muslim unity which is celebrated and enjoyed by both the community.

Various educational, cultural and social institutions are active in the city and organises the programmes beneficial to society such as plays, painting competitions, tree plantations, blood donation camps, cleanliness awareness programmes etc.

Entertainment

There were 6 single screen movie theaters available once upon a time in the city which was Shrikrishna,Rupali,Bhatwal,Dost,Hans and Raj. due to digital cabling of Television almost each family have their entertainment at their own home resulting in closure of the four theaters out of above six and replaced with either huge Shopping complexes or residential complexes..The Hans and Raj Theater is converted into multiplex which is just near by Chalisgaon railway Station.the plays and musical programmes gets arranged at open ground of either college at Dhule road or at N.Y. Chavan College at Hirpur Road. Chalisgaon Municipal Council has planned to construct a closed Theater which will be in the service of the peoples shortly.
