Chaetodon aureofasciatus is a species of marine angelfish found throughout the Pacific Ocean, including Australian waters of the Great Barrier Reef and Lord Howe Island, as well as Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.[1] With a preference for coastal and offshore reefs, it can be found at depths of 1–20 metres (3.3–65.6 ft).[1] It has a high tolerance for freshwater and is often found near river mouths.[1] It is an obligate feeder of live corals, though no coral reef decline has been specifically attributed to the species.[1]
