Catherine Gallagher

Catherine Gallagher (born 16 February 1945) is a historicist literary critic and Victorianist, and is Professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley. Her books include The Body Economic : Life, Death, and Sensation in Political Economy and the Victorian Novel (2005). She is married to Martin Jay, an Intellectual Historian in the History department at Berkeley. She is a recipient of the 2010/2011 Berlin Prize Fellowship from the American Academy in Berlin.
