Cartridge World is a business specialising in retailing ink and toner cartridges for domestic and commercial computer printers. Cartridge World also franchises these outlets. The business model is to refill OEM printer cartridges, and to sell the cartridges cheaper than the branded products. Empty cartridges are obtained by encouraging users to recycle them in-store or elsewhere.

Company overview

Cartridge World uses a franchise model to license stores specialising in ink and toner cartridges, printers, and related products and services. The stores also lease printers, offer printer servicing, and sell other office supplies. There are more than 1,400 Cartridge World stores globally.

The website refers to national headquarters offices in Hong Kong; Adelaide, Australia; and Spring Grove, Illinois;.

The company was founded in 1992 by Bryan Stokes, as the "Australian Cartridge Company" in Adelaide, and changed the name to Cartridge World in 1999. The first store was enfranchised in 1997, and in 2007, private equity fund Wolseley Private Equity purchased the business.

In 2013 Cartridge world in the UK closed its warehouse and subcontracted supply after asking suppliers to extend credit terms for supplies already delivered. At the same time a number of redundancies were made and the head office moved from Harrogate to smaller offices.[1]

In June 2015, Cartridge World was acquired by Suzhou Goldengreen Technologies Ltd. Steve Weedon has been appointed as Global Chief Executive Officer of Cartridge World and CEO of Cartridge World North America. Edwin Lui, previously General Manager Cartridge World Asia and Middle East, has been appointed Global Chief Financial Officer.

In June 2016, Cartridge World Global CEO, Steve Weedon, announced a strategic partnership with Samsung to offer mobile print and scanning services worldwide. [2]

In August 2016, Cartridge World was named one of the 50 Most Admired Companies of the Year 2016. [3]
