Caleb Maupin is a journalist and political analyst who appears frequently on RT and PressTV.[1] Tasnim News Agency described him as "a native of Ohio who has campaigned against war and the U.S. financial system".[2] He was a member of Workers World Party,[3] and Fight Imperialism – Stand Together (FIST) (WWP's youth wing) though he has recently distanced himself from that organization. He also worked as a youth organizer for the International Action Center and was involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement from its planning stages.[4]

Maupin's political activism began while attending Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio.[5] In 2010, he video recorded a confrontation between Collinwood High School students who walked out to protest teacher layoffs and the police.[6] His video footage resulted in one of the students being acquitted in juvenile court.[7] He was a figure within the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City.[8][9][10] Maupin writes on American foreign policy and other social issues.[11] His writings have been featured in several publications and translated into Persian, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese among others. [12]

He was a featured guest at the 2014 New Horizon Conference in Iran.[13][14] On September 6, 2013, he appeared on CNN as a representative of those protesting US intervention in Syria.[15] In May 2015, he accompanied a mission of the Red Crescent Society of the Iran to Yemen, on the Iran Shahed Rescue Ship.[16] The ship did not reach Yemen, but was diverted to the port of Djibouti [17]

In February 2016, Maupin was the featured international speaker at the Second Congress of the Trade Union Center of Brazil.[18] He gave a lengthy address describing efforts by US corporations to manipulate the price of oil and hold back development in impoverished countries.[19] The text of his speech was eventually published as a book entitled "Oil & The Global Capitalist Crisis." [20]

As a reporter for RT, Maupin has had several intense interactions with State Department spokesperson John Kirby [21] Maupin has challenged Kirby regarding the existence of Israeli nuclear weapons, Syria, and other issues. [22]

While Maupin is no longer a member of Workers World Party his work is often promoted by a socialist group called Students and Youth for a New America. In a speech at Rutgers University on October 20, 2016, in the midst of the 2016 US Presidential Election Maupin castigated the "cultural left" for abandoning the working class and allowing Donald Trump to capture their anger.[23] The student youth group co-sponsored a debate between Maupin and prominent Alt-Rightist Augustus Sol Invictus in New York City on July 8, 2017. [24] The debate will eventually be released as a film.
