Burhakaba (Somali: Buurhakaba) is a town located in the Bay region of Somalia.

The town is named after a large hill that the town surrounds it.

Overview

Burhakaba is the largest town in the region, with a reported population of 86,000 people. It is 180 km southwest of the capital Mogadishu and 60 km northeast from the regional center Baidoa. Burhakaba administrative district encompasses more than 360 villages. [1]

Strategic location

Burhakaba is the only town in Somalia that connects between three regions. A new airport has been planned to be built as of July 2017.

Economy

Given its strategic location, Burhakaba is a hub for livestock trading. Business people from the regions around it come to this town on Mondays mostly to buy livestock. Most of its people are agriculturists. The economic activity is highest on Mondays as compared to other days in the week.
