Biography (Television Series)

Bryce is a wealthy senior high school student who has many friends at Liberty High School. He is on both the varsity football and baseball teams and is often upheld as an upstanding student by both his fellow students and teachers. He is a troublemaker, known for hosting raucous parties at his parents' often-empty mansion, who liberally smokes and occasionally sells weed. Despite his outwardly charming nature, Bryce is also shown to be violent and uncaring, and is seen raping both Hannah Baker and Jessica Davis.

At Liberty, he is particularly close with Justin Foley and has often been there for him in times of need, such as when Justin could not afford new basketball shoes or when his mother was arrested for possession. It is largely out of his feelings of debt toward Bryce that Justin allows his friend to take advantage of an intoxicated and unconscious Jessica, even though Justin knew it was wrong.

Bryce is confronted about the assaults of both Jessica and Hannah, by Justin and Clay respectively. In both instances, particularly the latter, Bryce admits to the encounters but does not believe that he has done anything wrong. His outlook on Hannah's rape is that "if that's rape, then every girl in this school is begging to be raped," which he says in his inadvertent confession to Clay.

Bryce is the twelfth scheduled recipient of Hannah's tapes, with her naming him as one of the reasons she killed herself, due to his assault of her in his hot tub. However, his friends protect him from receiving the tapes because they fear that the consequences of the accusation will ruin his life and draw attention to the smaller infractions they have all committed. Eventually, some of the other accused change their outlooks slightly and some admit to wrongdoing in their depositions. Justin finally tells Bryce about the tapes as he is about to exit town, leaving Bryce to face the accusations alone.
