Clark attended Stow-Munroe Falls High School in Stow, Ohio.[1] He enrolled at Kent State University to play college baseball for the Kent State Golden Flashes, and was named a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger.[2][3] In 2014, his junior year, he transitioned from a relief pitcher into a starting pitcher.[4] He was named to the All-Tournament Team in the 2014 Mid-American Conference Baseball Tournament. The Chicago White Sox selected Clark in the ninth round, with the 258th overall selection, of the 2014 MLB draft.[5][6]
Clark played for the Great Falls Voyagers of the Rookie-level Pioneer League in 2014,[7] and for the Winston-Salem Dash of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League in 2015. He spent the 2016 season with the Birmingham Barons of the Class AA Southern League.[8] He was named the Barons' Pitcher of the Year.[9] After the 2016 regular season, he played for the Glendale Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League.[10] The White Sox invited Clark to spring training as a non-roster player in 2017.[11]
