Bree Essrig (born April 21st, 1990) is an American actor, writer, host, and internet personality, best known for her comedic writing and presence on the news and current event series SourceFed.[1] Essrig joined SourceFed as a host in 2015, and later that year began writing, producing, and starring in the sketch comedy series Nuclear Family.[2] Though she is usually cast as an ingenue, Essrig’s comedic style ranges between character, deadpan, dark, sarcastic, and ditsy.[3][4] Most of her writing is satire.

In addition to the many millions of views her sketches have garnered across various websites and channels, Essrig's personal YouTube channel alone has amassed over 300,000 subscribers and 19 million views.[5] She has over half a million social media followers in total, and has been spotlighted as a noteworthy female comedian by Seventeen Magazine,[6] The Daily Dot,[7] Uproxx,[8] Elizabeth Banks' website WhoHaha,[9] Amy Poehler's Smart Girls,[10] and more.

Background and personal life

Essrig was born in Tarzana, California and grew up in Los Angeles. She graduated from Idyllwild Arts Academy, where she studied film.

In 2013, Essrig came out publicly as “bisexual” on The Rubin Report.[11] Since then, she has been a public advocate against bullying, bi-erasure, body shaming and sexual assault.[12][13][7][6][14]

Early career

While in Los Angeles, Essrig began performing with her friends on Totally Sketch, a sketch comedy YouTube channel.[7] Since then, she has starred in thousands of videos on many popular Youtube channels (Break, Funny or Die, BlackBoxTV, The Young Turks, Machinima, What's Trending, Soul Pancake, etc.), and has performed many live stunts/pranks, including ghost hunting in some of the most haunted places in America,[15] a marriage proposal gone wrong, terrible flirting, and defecating on a park bench.[16]

Career

Essrig was a co-host on The Young Turks news and pop culture channel PopTrigger from 2012-2015 and a writer/host on SourceFed from 2015-2017,[1] where she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in SourceFed's sketch comedy channel, Nuclear Family, until March 2017.[2] She often acts as a guest host on various websites,[17] and has hosted multiple shows on Skybound, including Skybound Happy Hour and Skybound Insider.

Essrig has acted alongside such names as Elizabeth Banks and Martin Starr, and has appeared in a number of feature films and music videos.[18][19] In 2012, Essrig starred in the horror movie Blood Shed.[7]

She frequently appears on Elizabeth Banks’ comedy website WhoHaha,[20][9] as well as Doug Benson’s podcasts.[21]

Essrig was nominated for a Shorty Award in 2017 for Best Comedian.[3][22] She commonly makes appearances at festivals and conventions as a celebrity influencer guest, host and commentator.[23][24][25]
