Brandon Montour (born April 11, 1994) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League (NHL). Montour was selected by the Ducks in the second round, 55th overall, of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Personal life
Montour is of First Nations descent and grew up in Ohsweken, a village inside the reserve of Six Nations of the Grand River, He also spent 8 years living in Tilbury, Ontario. Six Nations is known to have the greatest number of people among all First Nations in Canada.[1]
Playing career
Montour played with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League and one season with the University of Massachusetts Amherst before starting his professional career with the Anaheim Ducks' affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL towards the end of the 2014–15 season. He would then play the entire 2015–16 season with the Ducks' relocated AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.
He got his first National Hockey League call-up to the Ducks on December 28, 2016, and played his first game the next day against the Calgary Flames.[2] He scored his first NHL goal in his sixth game against Ben Bishop of the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 4, 2017.
Montour was selected to the 2017 AHL All-Star game for the second consecutive year. Despite not playing the entire season for the Gulls Montour had amassed 21 points in only 25 games.[3]
With the upcoming expansion draft in the NHL, Montour is creating lots of interest for other teams around the league, as he is a defender who has game changing abilities.[4]
