JJ Project (Korean: 제이제이 프로젝트) is a South Korean pop duo, consisting of JB and Jinyoung. They were formed by JYP Entertainment and released their first single "Bounce" in May 2012.[1] They debuted as a part of Got7 in January 2014.
Career
Pre-debut
In 2009, JB and Jinyoung successfully auditioned for JYP Entertainment, and became trainees.[2] In January 2012, the duo made their acting debut in the KBS drama Dream High 2.[3]
2012–2014: Debut with "Bounce", "Na Na Na" and Got7
They officially debuted with the single "Bounce" on May 20, 2012.[1][4] The music video for title track with the same name was released through their official YouTube account and[5] reached over 1 million views on YouTube in 2 days.[6] The duo started their promotions for the single on May 24, 2012 on Mnet's M! Countdown.[7]
On June 26, 2012, the duo was invited to record an own rendition of "Na Na Na" by Yoo Seung-jun to be performed on the second season of MBC's music program MM Choice.[8] In April 2013, the duo appeared once again as actors for the MBC's drama, When a Man Falls in Love.[9] On January 16, 2014, the duo debuted as members of boy group Got7.[10]
2017–present: Comeback with Verse 2
In June 2017, the new album of the duo was confirmed by JYP Entertainment, making it the first release of the group after five years. JB and Jinyoung are expected to show a new side of them, something different from their hip-hop dance song "Bounce" in 2012.[11] They released their first extended play, Verse 2 featuring lead single "Tomorrow, Today" on July 31.[12] Park Jin-young and JJ Project, wrote the song together. It is a combination of pop, alternative rock and hip-hop elements. To commemorate the release of the new album the duo held an photo exhibition, which is composed of photographs they have taken, own essays, and unlisted photographs that can be viewed only at the exhibition.[12][13]
