Bongani Mawethu Mayosi (born 28 January 1967) is a South African cardiology professor who was awarded his county's highest honour, the Order of Mapungubwe (Silver) in 2009.[1] He is the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town and is an A-rated National Research Foundation researcher.[2] Prior to this, he was head of the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital.[3] His father was a medical doctor and so is his wife; his research interests include Rheumatic fever, Tuberculous pericarditis and Cardiomyopathy.[4][5] He is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and a former President of the College of Physicians of South Africa.[6]
