Body Hound are a math-rock band consisting of two ex-members of Rolo Tomassi and one ex-member of tech-metal/Grindcore band Antares.[1] Combining elements of instrumental rock, math rock, jazz, classic rock and prog.
They released their debut album "Rhombus Now" on Holy Roar Records in August 2014.
Background
The band originally began as a two-piece act consisting of Calvin Rhodes on guitar and Ryan Bright on drums. Upon leaving Rolo Tomassi, Joe Nicholson and Joeseph Thorpe joined as guitarist and bassist respectively and the existing tracks were reworked to be played as a full band.
In contrast to Calvin's time in Antares, more attention was paid towards studying the tonal and rhythmic qualities as a means to elicit emotion during songwriting.[2]
Since the release of their debut album Rhombus Now, the band have been steadily building a cult following, winning plenty of praise for their performance at ArcTanGent Festival in 2015.[3][4][5]
Musical Style
Their sound is characterised by the changing time signatures and polyrhythms associated with math rock. The band themselves have described their sound as "Yes playing Meshuggah songs"[6] Their progressive tendencies has also lead to comparisons being drawn with "King Crimson, Rush or Steve Howe.[7]"
