Blaand

Blaand is a fermented milk product made from whey. It is similar in alcohol content to wine.

History

Blaand was introduced to Scotland by Vikings.

It was a traditional Scottish drink for centuries, but it was not commercialized; production ended in the mid-20th century.

It has recently (2005) been revived and commercialized by Humphrey Errington, under the "Fallachan" brand, fallachan being a Scottish Gaelic word for "hidden treasure".[1]

Geography

The same drink (under different names) is made in Norway, Sweden, Sardinia, and Russia.
