"Birmingham" is a song by Canadian pop-rock artist Amanda Marshall. It was released in January 1996 as the second single from her self-titled debut album. The song is her most successful single in Canada, reaching number 3, and her only song to reach the United States Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 43.

Content

The song tells the story of a woman in Birmingham, Alabama who is the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Virgil Spencer. One night, while Virgil is passed out after drinking a bottle of Jim Beam, she takes advantage of the situation by removing the keys out of his pocket and fleeing her abusive marriage by sneaking out in the middle of the night.
