Forty ladies competed for three titles: Miss Universe Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas International, and Binibining Pilipinas Tourism. The Miss Universe Philippines (formerly called Binibining Pilipinas Universe) winner competed in Miss Universe 2011 in São Paulo, Brazil and Binibining Pilipinas International competed in Miss International 2011 in Chengdu, China. Binibining Pilipinas Tourism competed in Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 in Xian, China.
The preliminary competition was held on April 3, 2011, after the much awaited Parade of Beauties at the Araneta Center, Quezon City aired on ABS-CBN.
At the pageant conclusion, Shamcey Gurrea Supsup was crowned as the new Miss Universe Philippines for Miss Universe 2011 in São Paulo, Brazil, who succeeded the title. - Originally, BPCI announced that 40 candidates will compete in this year's pageant. Unfortunately, 3 candidates were eliminated due to some alleged issues. They were Grendel Alvarado, first Philippines' Next Top Model winner and Jenilyn Olivar who placed 3rd in the same competition, the third one is Roxanne Cabañero. However, BPCI included three more ladies to the official roster: Bernadette Aguirre (#9) from Bulacan, Gerlie Lero (#17) from Catanduanes and Monique Teruelle Manuel (#40) from Bataan. They are among those who achieved the next highest ratings called from the series of screenings conducted.[2]
