Billy Dilley's Super-Duper Subterranean Summer (also known as Billy Dilley) is an American animated television series created and executive-produced by Aaron Springer, an animation veteran whose extensive credits include working on Dexter's Laboratory, SpongeBob SquarePants, Samurai Jack, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Gravity Falls, Wander Over Yonder, and the current run of Mickey Mouse shorts.^[1] Springer was also behind the Cartoon Network pilots Periwinkle Around the World and Baloobaloob's Fun Park, and the Adult Swim pilot Korgoth of Barbaria. The show premiered on Disney XD on June 3, 2017.^[2]

Plot

The show follows the adventures of Billy Dilley (Aaron Springer), a 7th grader who loves science, and his lab partners, Zeke (Tom Kenny) and Marsha (Catie Wayne), and his pet rat, Anaximander, who on summer vacation find themselves trapped in Subterranea-Tania, a strange world located in the Earth's core after a test ride in Billy's science fair project The Cheeserator, a giant drilling machine designed for cutting holes in enormous Swiss cheese, goes horribly wrong.

Production

The show was first announced in 2014 as a potential pilot.^[3] In March 2016, it was confirmed that Disney XD has greenlit the show for a full series along with Big City Greens. ^[1]

In 2015, Merriwether Williams was confirmed in a Twitter post by Vincent Waller as one of the show's writers,^[4][5] whilst Character designer Robertryan Cory announced on his Tumblr page he has been working on the series since December 2014, just over a year before the pickup was officially announced.^[6]

Characters

• Billy Dilley (voiced by Aaron Springer) - He is described as a eccentric science obsessed boy, who's more observant and often willing to explore much of creatures that lives in Subterranea-Tania, he at times is often describe as silly, weird, and optimistic at times.
• Zeke (voiced by Tom Kenny) - A long-haired, preteened slacker who was assigned to work with Billy. He often tries to appear cool and aloof, but in reality gets emotional quite easily.^[7]
• Marsha (voiced by Catie Wayne) - A wannabe social butterfly and budding journalist who was assigned to work with Billy. Very impressionable and lively, if somewhat spacey at times.
• Anaximander - Billy's pet rat who spends much of the episodes lazing around.
• Count Wretcher (voiced by James Arnold Taylor) - The self-proclaimed ruler of Subterranea-Tania, who dreams of covering the surface world with sludge.
• Judy (voiced by Sarah-Nicole Robles) - A swamp creature that Billy befriends.

Future

As of July 2017, it is currently unknown if the series will return with new episodes. Rumors indicate that the series ended on a cliffhanger in "The Battle for Subterranea-Tania", though others mention that the episode was the mid-season finale. Currently, none of the cast and crew have confirmed about the series' future. Reruns have ceased as of July 1, 2017.

Billy Dilley's Super-Duper Subterranean Summer premiered on Disney XD in Canada on June 5, in Germany, Disney XD premiered the series on July 7, in Australia and New Zealand, Disney XD will premiere the series in October 2017, in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the show will premiere on Disney XD on September 5, 2017.
