Big Muddy Records is an independent American roots music record label based out of St Louis, Missouri. Founded by Chris (Kristo) Baricevic in 2005,[1] Big Muddy Records has been a pivotal element in the development of many of St Louis' roots music acts, ranging from garage rock, punk, country, traditional jazz, blues, and folk music.[2]

Big Muddy Records is currently distributed by Entertainment One and Amped.

Active Big Muddy Records artists include acts such as The Hooten Hallers,[3] Jack Grelle,[4] Ryan Koenig, Maximum Effort,[5] Sidney Street Shakers,[6] Rum Drum Ramblers, The Strange Places, The Loot Rock Gang, The Hobosexuals, Tortuga, and Southwest Watson Sweethearts.

Past Big Muddy recording artists include Pokey LaFarge[7] and Bob Reuter of The Dinosaurs and Alley Ghost.

Bob Reuter and His Legacy

Following the tragic death of Bob Reuter in 2013,[8][9] Chris Baricevic and Big Muddy Records became executors of Reuter's estate, including his catalog of music and his photography, tasked with preserving his legacy and the formation of the Cowboy Angel Foundation.[10] Big Muddy Records is currently working to re-issue Reuter's back catalog,[11] including 1978-79 recordings of proto-punk band The Dinosaurs, which are the earliest known recordings of punk in St Louis.[12]

Awards

Big Muddy Records was awarded the Best Local Record Label in 2008 [13] and 2009 [14] by The Riverfront Times.
