Bhojudih is a census town in Chandankiyari (community development block) in Chas subdivision of Bokaro district in the state of Jharkhand, India.

Geography

Bhojudih is located at 23°38′N 86°27′E / 23.63°N 86.45°E / 23.63; 86.45.[1] It has an average elevation of 138 metres (452 feet).

Introduction

Bhojudih is a small town in the state of Jharkhand and is situated between Dhanbad and Bokaro, the two famous cities for Coal and Steel. It has all the basic facilities like Primary Schools, High Schools, Colleges and Hospitals. Despite of being a backward area, Bhojudih has a very good literacy rate and people here use latest technologies like Mobiles, Internet and PCs. More than 80% of youngsters use Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, instagram at the moment to get connected with the rest of the world.

As the world and India is progressing, Bhojudih has seen some growth too. There is a Railway Station here which is known as Bhojudih (BJE) Junction. There is a Bank of India's Branch near the famous 'Maa Durga' temple in the Niche Bazar area. This Bank of India branch provides facilities like 24 hours ATM, Core Banking and Internet Banking which is necessary in the current era of E-Commerce.

Recently, SBI has opened its branch in Chhatatand area which currently provides basic facilities. There is a Police Station too and they are doing a very wonderful job to keep this little town safe and peaceful.

There are three rivers surrounding Bhojudih, called Damodar, Ijari and Guwai. That's the main reason behind availability of big amount of water here.

Tourist spots

There is a very famous holy place here, which is known as 'Bhairav-Sthan' (भैरवस्थान). There is a small temple of Bhairav baba where people perform traditional rituals and worship him. There is also a Pavitra Kund here in Bhairav dham which is full of clean water. It is said that Arjuna created this Kund using his Arrow during Pandvas banwaas years in Dwapar Yuga. It is found that water from this kund flows continuously but its level remains the same, even at the time of summer. Slowly, it is developing into a famous tourist spot. People come here to spend some quality time with their families to enjoy the beautiful natural setting.

Recently, Sri Amar Bauri (local MLA & Minister) organized 'भैरवधाम महोत्सव' (Bhairav Dhaam Mahotsav) here which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Sri Raghubar Das. Many famous artistes performed during the 'Bhairav Dhaam Mahotsav' at Bhojudih. Main attraction of the event were world famous Sufi Singer Kailash Kher and star Bollywood singer udit narayan. Nearly 1,50,000 people visited Bhairav-Sthan during 3 days long festival.

Religious places

There are other lots of religious places here. Durga Pandal (Niche Bazar), Shiv Mandir (Chhatatand), Janamashtami Pandal (Linepar) are some of the popular temples here. There is a Church and a Masjid too. People of all communities live with a great harmony here.

Like every other Indian town, Durga Puja, Ganesh Puja, Vishwakarma Puja, Saraswati Puja, Janamashtami, Diwali, Kali Puja, Muharram, Christmas and last but not the least Chhat Puja are the popular festivals here.

Economy

Bhojudih Coal Washery of Bharat Coking Coal Limited has an annual capacity of washing 1.7 million tonnes of coking coal.[2]

Markets

There is a small market in its heart, known as 'Mini Market'. Linepar, Niche Bazar, Chattatand and Mahatha Para are other popular areas in Bhojudih.

Niche Bazar is one of the most happening areas in Bhojudih. From costly Electronic products to stylish clothes to Grocery items, you can find all kinds of products here.

Schooling/Educational Facilities

Bhojudih has schooling facility up to 10+2. There is a Government School as well as a Railway School. And then there is one Graduation College, which is known as Swami Vivekananda College and it is affiliated with the S.S.College (Chas/Bokaro) and follows the guidelines of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. It is also known as Bhojudih College Bhojudih. Arts, Science and Commerce all available as subjects here.

S.E. Railway Inter College is the most famous school in Bhojudih and nearby villages. This is a Hindi medium school and has all the facilities. From 2014, this school is affiliated with CBSE. Class 1 and Class 2 are now fully English medium and it will progress to other classes with this new batch of students. School is planning to launch a website with all the activities soon.

There is one Saraswati Vidya Mandir too. One English medium school is known as Shishu Niketan, which is the best for small children to learn the basics of English and other subjects. English medium facility is available up to Standard 5 here.

Other Activities

There is a Railway Institute too. S.E. Railway School Ground and SERSA (South Eastern Railway Sports Association) ground are two most biggest playing fields here and they keep organizing Zonal and District Cricket/Football/Badminton matches, and the youth also plays cricket and football regularly in these grounds to remain physically and mentally fit and many do morning walk in the grounds and many people practice running,jumping and other things regularly to serve the nation and make a bright future in Police and Army etc.

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Bhojudih had a population of 7,005, of which 3,688 were males and 3,306 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 2,020 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 123.[3]

According to 2001 India census,[4] Bhojudih haa a population of 8,936. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Bhojudih haa an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 75% and female literacy of 51%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Transport

Bhojudih railway station is on the Adra-Netaji SC Bose Gomoh branch line. Train is the best transport service to reach Bhojudih (BJE). You can reach here by road too. But, if you are coming here for the first time then I would suggest you to use Railways' service. And yes, don't miss on eating the popular vegetable chops in the canteen of Bhojudih Railway Station.

Healthcare

There is an outdoor health clinic facility available here which is known as Railway Hospital. Also, there are at least three very well educated Doctors available here. And then, there are some compounders too, who provide home services. You can buy your required medicines easily here.
