Bhawanigarh is a town and a municipal council (Class-3) in Sangrur district in the state of Punjab, India. It is also the headquarter of Bhawanigarh tehsil, which was formed in December 2016.[1] The town is also called Dhode, after the clan of its original founders. The town lies 19 kilometres east of Sangrur on the Patiala-Sangrur road. Patiala is 36 kilometres east of Bhawanigarh.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Bhawanigarh had a population of 17,780. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Bhawanigarh has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 66% and female literacy of 57%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. According to 2011 census data, its total population is 22320. The name Bhawanigarh originates from "Bhawani" mata. There is a temple of Bhawani mata in Bhawanigarh.
