Bhatni Bazar is a town and a Nagar Panchayat in the Deoria district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is also the headquarters of the Development block with the same name.
Geography
Bhatni Bazar is a small town in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, India, located at an average elevation of 57 meters above sea level. Bhatni is divided into two markets; one is known as Nooriganj Bazar (some suggest it was constructed by Noori Miya), and the other is Hatwa Bazar, a comparatively larger market than the former. A sugar mill and a railway connection between the two markets suggest the location's economical and/or social significance.
Nearby settlements include small towns such as Khoribari, Rampur, Balua, Afgan, and Ghantee, Bazar in the north, Peokol, Bharauli, and Bharthua in the south, Uska, Nonapar, Bharhe, Chaura and Sawrezi in the east, and Noonkhar, Pipra-Devraj in the west.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Bhatni Bazar had a population of 14,381. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. The town has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with a male literacy rate of 76% and a female literacy rate of 52%. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Language
The people of Bhatni speak Bhojpuri and Hindi, although English is increasingly used by younger people of the area.
Education
There are two private degree colleges: Sita Devi Mahavidyalaya and Bahadur Yadav Memorial Degree College, affiliated to D.D.U. Gorakhpur University. There is an intermediate college named Subhash Intermediate College in the heart of town. It is considered to be the oldest college in the vicinity of 10 km area. A government Junior High School is located in Hatwa.
Politics
Bhatni, as Nagar Panchayat, has often been in the limelight for the politics of its Chairman elections. Bhatni has seen development since it was declared the status of Nagar Panchayat. Dr.Fazal Ahmad Rayeeny (Dr.Munna Rayeeny)is a Samajwadi party leader, as well as a nominated member of the U.P. Government. Mohanlal Gupta and Urmila Devi both also previously served as chairmen. Ramesh Verma has also served as Chairman thrice. Vijay Gupta is current chairman of Bhatni Nagar Panchayat. Many other notable leaders representing all major parties are found in the town. Ramesh Verma, Ramsagar Yadav, Gajala Lari (former MLA) Afroj Khan along with the loyalist Vijay Gupta. Balram Jaiswal is a notable Congress leader in Bhatni. Bhatni is also a block development council (BDC) and Ashok Kumar Gupt is also a ward member at ward no. 7 and stands for chairman election. Members are elected by voters of the relative ward, which are called BDC member. Chairman of BDC are elected by the ward member of BDC.[2]
